Interior design inspirations and resources to draw on

With a rich history of driving my parents and friends mad with endless talk of interior design everyone figured the best way to keep me off their backs was to set up as a freelance interior designer. You can contact me any time for a quote or information I might have about interiors, and this page is intended as a crash course in the styles and influences which have inspired me over the years. I translate these inspirations into real world scenarios for clients and choose from a wide palette of styles and colours to define the ultimate solution.

A design history

As I mention on my home page some of the designers who have really inspired me over the ages include Kelly Hoppen (you can see her chatting on video about interior design inspiration here, Terence Conran whose design brand is a well oiled machine but despite their size have in fact created some beautiful interiors and a multitude of other design related stuff. Other design inspirations in terms of colours and styles for me - which I try and blend into work where it suits a client room or style are artists such as members of Der Blaue Reiter like Wassily Kandinsky. I find that drawing from classics and contemporary design, art and music helps to draw a balance for an interior theme which often may get neglected or overlooked, and this applies irrespective of whether we are looking at a minimalist bright white design or super saturated Moroccan vibes, (man!). But lets remember that trends in design and specifically interiors do not equate to durability, there have been a multitude of fads which may have been popular in their time do not in fact equate to quality design, some great examples include shallow bathroom sinks and other incredibly poor design items which do the opposite of enhancing interiors.

Angela's inspiration from around the world

There are no right and wrongs to a degree, and it's pretty clear that many designers are getting back to basics with their sources. Strong bold lines of aboriginal arts, floral timeless style of Indian patterns, and the decoration of african art has inspired the likes of David Attenborough for decades. It really depends on each individual project as to where we might wish to go for style, and wherver it might end up being we'll work with you to create super mood boards that are fun and drive the style forward.
